Expired dairy products and artificial flavorings of 2020 were found at dairies in this city

We often buy dairy products from brands and local vendors, thinking that they are rich in protein and other nutrients and will boost immunity and overall health. But what if they become only the cause of the disease? Well, that’s true food inspection officials have recently stopped many dairies in Hyderabad for the same. Scroll down to read the details.

According to the latest X update by the Food Safety Commissioner of Telangana, the task force conducted inspections at the milk factories in Hyderabad on 20.12.2024 and found missing health documents of employees and Fostac certificates of food handlers. It was found that the ceilings had come off in some places. The floor covering turned out to be uneven. The unit was not equipped with proper drainage. Expired food products were also detected, including artificial flavors – vanilla (500 ml – expiration date 10/2020), lemon (500 ml – expiration date 05/18/2024) and lemon (500 ml – expiration date 12/2020) . Officials also visited NR Dairy houseRahat Nagar, Amberpet on 20.12.2024 and they found that the internal iron sheet structures were rusted. The flooring was found to be spotty, uneven with stagnant water, and was also found to emit an unpleasant odor. There is one toilet that goes directly into the production premises and can lead to contamination. Production and storage took place in unhygienic conditions. Pest control records were not available and pests such as house flies, mosquitoes and cockroaches were noted. Garbage bags, wooden logs, plastic containers, etc. were thrown on the floor. Food handlers were found without aprons, hats, shoe covers etc. and spitting was seen in some areas of the unit. In addition, fostac certificates and medical records of employees were not available.

Before that, in October 2024, the task force inspected Kohinoor Dairy Products, a dairy at Peerzadiguda in Medipally, near Hyderabad. They listed several violations found on the territory. The team noted that the production unit was operating in a shed that lacked a proper layout plan. The unit also lacked relevant documents/records on milk procurement and sale of milk products. There was no quality control laboratory or external quality control testing facility. Additionally, a pest control certificate and pollution control permit were also not available. Moreover, no medical records were found for the food handlers. Handlers have not received FOSTAC (Food Safety Training and Certification) training. The establishment did not display its FSSAI license in a prominent place.
