The fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu was that of Narsimha, who came to Earth to save Prahlad, his devotee, and end the suffering of Hiranyakashipu, the demon king. According to the scriptures, legends and superstitions, Hiranyakashipu was the ruler of the demons who possessed the power that he would not be killed by man, god or even animal, and so he began to think highly of himself. He commanded all to worship him, not the gods, and he alone was truly immortal. But his anger did not work in front of his son Prahlad who worshiped Lord Vishnu with all his heart. And so Hiranyakashipu tried to kill his own son Prahlada, and just before he could do so, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Narsimha, half man and half lion, and ended Hiranyakashipu’s reign with his mighty grip.
