Remember the Bollywood movie ‘Judaai’ where the wife takes money from her husband’s mistress to exchange her husband? Well, in a strange turn of events, a similar incident happened in China that left people shocked and amused. However, in this incident, the lover not only lost her money, but also her boyfriend!
A strange love triangle
Meet Han, a Chinese man living in Shishi in China’s Fujian Province. According to reports, Khan (who is known only by his last name) married his wife Yang in 2013 and the couple have two daughters. Years later, Han had an affair with Shea, who also became his business partner. And in November 2022, Khan and his lover Shi had a son.
Report by South China Morning Post (SCMP) reveals that Shi’s mistress later tried to convince Han’s wife Yang to divorce the man. For this, Shi agreed to pay Yang a whopping RMB 2 million, of which she paid RMB 1.2 million (approximately INR 1.3 crore). But Yan not only took the money, but also did not leave her husband after more than a year!
Frustrated by Yang, Shi first demanded her money back. However, when the wife refused to return the money to her mistress, and also refused to divorce the man, Shi sued Yang. In the lawsuit, Mistress Shi claimed that she had a “verbal agreement” with Yang (her boyfriend’s wife) about the divorce money from Han. And since Jan did not keep her promise, she must return the money with interest.
What the court said

Hearing the lawsuit, the Shishi People’s Court rejected Shi’s request on February 7, according to the SCMP report. The court said that Shea’s payment violated society’s moral standards and public order because it intended to dissolve a legally valid marriage.
It was also later revealed that Han and Yang had filed for divorce and the couple was in a “cooling off period” (a 30-day period before their legal separation). This also went against Shea as it meant the money did not meet the legal conditions for a refund.
Not only that, it was later revealed that when Han was married to Yang, he spent more than 6 million yuan on his mistress Shi, without his wife knowing about it. And so, since this affair and subsequent expenses occurred while he was married, his wife has a legal right to demand her share of the money from the mistress. Explaining this, lawyer Yue Zenchao of Henan Yushun Law Firm told the Henan Broadcasting System: “Any significant assets acquired by a married man during an affair without his wife’s consent are considered joint property of the couple. The wife has a legal right to demand the return of her share from a third party,” reports SCMP.
This strange incident made people very happy on social media. One user commented: “The result is really satisfying. Taking the money and refusing the divorce is the perfect way to make her lose both the man and the money!” while another joked: “What kind of person is this who is worth 1.2 million yuan?”
Real life really is stranger than fiction sometimes, isn’t it?
