Chhat Puja 2024: The four-day Hindu festival of Chhat Puja is celebrated every year. It is dedicated to the worship of Lord Surya and his sister Chhati Maya, the sixth form of Devi Prakriti. It is widely observed in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the sixth day of the lunar month of Kartika, or Vikram Samvat, six days after Deepavali. Day 1: Let’s go
Nahai Khai is the first day of Chhath Puja celebrations. This marks the beginning of a festive four-day holiday. On this day, women observing the Chhat (vrat) fast eat only once and devotees take a holy bath.
Day 2: Lokhanda and Kharna
Kharna or Lokhanda marks the second day of the Chhat Puja festival. On this day, devotees observe nirjala vrat (fasting without drinking a single drop of water). Fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, believers break their fast and offer food to the Sun god.
Day 3: Chhat Puja or Sandhya Arghya
The third day of Chhat Puja is celebrated as Sandhya Argya. On this day Argya is sacrificed to the Sun god at dusk and the fast continues throughout the night.
Day 4: Usha Arghya or Parana Day
The fourth and last day of Chhath is known as Usha Arghya or Parana Day. It is dedicated to the offering of Argya to the rising sun. On this day, believers break their 36-hour fast after making offerings to the Sun God.
