Diddy was previously rumored to be receiving special treatment at New York’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), and a new report has now revealed that federal authorities have seized drugs, weapons and electronic devices during a sweep of the prison.
The sweep is unrelated to Didi’s arrest
The new development comes nearly a month and a half after Didi’s arrest on September 16; however, the sweep “was not related to the arrest of Combs” and was carried out as a “pre-planned and coordinated” action by the Bureau of Prisons to ensure the “safety and security” of both inmates and staff.
It should be noted that MDC, New York, is notorious for its dilapidated conditions and inmate fighting. The correctional facility has been the target of criticism since the summer following two fatal stabbings this summer that led to murder charges against five inmates. In another horrific incident, gang members stabbed a man 44 times and another was stabbed in the spine with a homemade ice pick.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace issued a stark warning to inmates, saying, “Violence will not be tolerated in our federal prisons,” and adding “a warning to those who engage in criminal behavior behind bars.”
MDC history with popular criminals
Over the years, the Brooklyn jail housed many infamous criminals, such as Jeffrey Epstein, associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and cryptocurrency scandal figure Sam Bankman-Fried. Combs, a hip-hop mogul with high-profile Hollywood connections, joined the list of infamy thanks to an ongoing stream of sexual assault allegations against him. The rapper pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Didi was denied bail twice
The music impresario, who faced more than a dozen lawsuits related to his sex crimes, has twice been denied bail. Judges argued that if released under house arrest, the tycoon would use his wealth and power to thwart the government. Desperate to get him out of jail before his trial, his legal team asked the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to release him after two Manhattan judges turned him down. Arguments are scheduled for Monday. Didi’s trial will take place on May 5.
