Is the simple saree making a comeback in full force? Alia Bhatt, Malaika Arora, Rashmika Mandana champion the cause

If you can relate to how freaking gorgeous Alia Bhatt looked in the newly launched Sabya saree, there’s a trend to sniff out and adopt in your wardrobe

During the wedding season, do you automatically gravitate towards the most ornate draperies carefully stored in your closet? Well, maybe it’s time for a big shift in atmosphere. While the beautiful length of your painstakingly embroidered 9-yards will always be timeless, “now” calls for a more purposeful balance between going the “less is more” route and adorning it with jewels for the gods. Look out for it because we’re predicting a pretty grand comeback for the simple and hot plain saree, and we’ve got the crème de la crème of fashion leaders as the trend’s poster girls.

Alia Bhatt

For Sabyasachi’s main show, celebrating the brand’s 25th anniversary, which now aims to cater to a global audience, Alia sat front row in a raven colored silk saree. While the saree didn’t feature a single motif on its flowing pleated length, the jewel encrusted bronze gold plunging neckline blouse was breathtaking in every sense of the word.

Malaika Arora

A few days ago, Malaika Arora was photographed by the paps in Mumbai wearing a saree with a similar texture, albeit in a hot red color. The drapery was combined with a blouse of the same tone, also without motifs. As with Alia, who accessorized with a blouse, Malaika opted for a more traditional approach, wearing a layered choker instead to enhance the final award.

Rashmika Mandanna

Frankly, Rashmika Mandana rocked the trend even before Alia and Malaika jumped on it. A brief overview of her promotional campaign for Pushpa 2: Rule will tell you what we are talking about. Rashmika almost went through the entire color wheel, but Amit Agarwal’s emerald green number was our favourite. Simple through the yards and intricate on the bodice, it’s really not hard to see all the fashion girls taking to this trend like a fish to water.
