Hard work pays off with dedication and celebrity chef Vikas Khannait paid off in a big way, as his New York restaurant, Bungalow, was awarded the Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand Award.
The chef was thrilled to share the news in his official Instagram post. The message reads: “Although I have previously received 8 Michelin stars, today I felt different. I felt it was for some higher purpose, it was like a tribute, it was like a promise to my land and my people. To my sister.”
“This is just the beginning. We will work harder and harder day by day to give our guests an experience that is a testament to Indian hospitality,” he said while sharing a photo of himself proudly holding the Indian national flag. Take a look at his post:
For the uninitiated: Chef Vikas opened Bungalow in March 2024 and dedicated the premises to his mother and sister. Since its opening, the Bungalow has become a haven for food Indian food lovers in New York.
Located in the vibrant culinary heart of New York, Bungalow has managed to stand out in a city teeming with famous eateries.
According to the Michelin guide website, the Michelin Bib Gourmand award is given to restaurants that offer great food at reasonable prices.
The website says: “What Bib restaurants have in common is a simpler style of cooking that is recognizable and easy to eat. A Bib Gourmand restaurant will also leave you feeling satisfied that you have eaten so well at a reasonable price.”
According to Bungalow’s website, Bungalow offers a nostalgic trip to India’s vintage clubs, and the name comes from the Bengali ‘Bangla’. Bungalow is an invitation to experience the history, culture and exceptional cuisine inspired by these luxurious clubs that helped shape Indian social life and social relations.
