The Delhi University introduced a new optional course called “Intimate Talks” to help students navigate emotional difficulties, identify red flags and understand the dynamics of friendship and romantic relations in the dating and social media. This course, which offers the Department of Psychology, is open to student students, starting with the 2023-26 training session. It was listed on the university’s official website since 2023. The decision comes to the waves of increasing concern about the emotional suffering and cases of violence associated with the toxic relations among young people. The purpose of the university is to create sustainability among students and emotional intelligence.
About the course: negotiations on intimate relationships
The course introduced by the Department of Psychology focused on the management of Gen Z students through the difficulties of modern relationships, ruptures and borders in the digital era determined by social media applications such as Tinder and Instagram. The goal is to focus on topics, romantics, friendships, breaks that often ignore the traditional education system. The course is eligible for students who have cleaned 12 class exams.
The course structure
Four credit course offers three lectures and one tutorial weekly. The textbooks will feature interesting exercises such as films reviews, dating discussions, group discussions and analysis of the social media network. This unique academic space gives students without opinions to openly discuss their relationship.Basic units:The transition of relations from friends to partners how to maintain long -term connections and understanding of friendship and relationships.Studying emotional attachment and sexuality in relationships and understanding of love through key theories, such as a triangular theory of Sternberg and two -factor theory.Teaching students to recognize signs of trouble in relationships, including jealousy, betrayal, emotional violence and violence in partners, as well as expanding their priority to their well -being.Creating strong connections through effective communication, empathy and emotional support, thereby contributing to positive relationships and family dynamics.

For example, students will analyze cinematic ideas about love and conflict in critical films such as Kabir Singh and Titanic, studying the topics of toxic courage and idealized romance.Member of the Faculty Du, Latik Gupta said: “Movies often glamoring toxic love, but in the class they become opportunities to unpack harmful norms. We need to start talking about emotional health when we seriously treat future harm.”
