In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Gunita Singh, BDS, MD Dental Lasers shared, “Winter is the season for fresh fruits and mulled wine. Fruit is the best thing for your teeth, and wine is bad, especially red wine, which is acidic and causes stains. Hot tea, black coffee and traditional baths – all this is even more damaging to our teeth. So, to keep your teeth healthy and shiny, the perfect balance and choice is essential. Exposure to cold air can also make your teeth sensitive. Sudden changes in temperature in the mouth can also lead to cracked teeth.’

She suggested: “So to keep your teeth healthy, avoid extreme temperatures, wear a mask when you go out. Sweet potatoes are the best for enamel health because they keep your teeth healthy and strong. Bananas are a close second. If you’re looking for white teeth in winter , avoid black coffee, green tea and red wine or brush your teeth immediately after. Another mantra is to drink some water before and after use of this. Strawberries are best for whitening teeth. The malic acid content helps to whiten the teeth. You can also use the inside of an orange peel and smile.”

Protect your teeth from winter with these simple tips

Dr. Manvi Srivastava, Dentist, NIIMS College of Medicine and Hospital, pooling her knowledge revealed, “To maintain white teeth during the winter months, one must maintain good dental hygiene and adopt smart practices like brushing and flossing twice a day , to get rid of stains and stop discoloration. Limit foods and beverages that discolor. Eating crunchy foods and vegetables such as celery or apples can also naturally remove blemishes.’

To avoid tooth decay, Dr. Manvi Srivastava recommended, “Use fluoridated toothpaste. Make sure you have enough toothpaste on your brush. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially after meals, as this keeps your mouth fresh and helps wash away food particles. Because it preserves tooth enamel and prevents yellowing of teeth, hydration is also crucial. Frequent dental checkups help keep your teeth in top condition and keep hard stains at bay. Take some time to brush your teeth properly as recommended by your dentist. To prevent food from getting stuck between your teeth, always rinse your mouth with water after eating.”
