Ivanka Trump was the picture of chic elegance as she attended her father Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration. Standing next to him in the US Capitol Rotunda as he was sworn in as the 47th US President, Ivanka made a striking appearance in a green skirt suit paired with a matching hat. Her outfit oozed sophistication, contrasting with her all-white ensemble from her father’s first inauguration in 2017.
A ceremony marking Donald Trump’s return to office just over two months after his victory over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris Presidential elections of 2024held indoors for the first time in 40 years due to the expected cold weather. The move to the US Capitol building was a significant adjustment for the traditionally outdoor event, demonstrating how weather conditions can affect the scale and setting of such monumental events.

Ivanka’s fashion choice caused mixed reactions on social networks. Many fans appreciated her chic image. One user on X wrote: “Elegant,” while another added: “She looks gorgeous and dignified.” A third commenter raved about her style, saying: “Great! She dresses so beautifully, so much style and class.’
However, not everyone appreciated her outfit equally. Some users have drawn comparisons to the dystopian TV series The Handmaid’s Tale, where the women are often shown in shades of green similar to Ivanka’s outfit. One commenter posted a side-by-side image of Ivanka and Ivona Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford, the series’ character, with the caption: “Kind of reminds me of her.” Another user joked: “Coming straight off the set of Handmaid’s Tale season 6.” Another comment even read, “I had no idea the French Foreign Legion was in town,” referring to the military uniform associated with the group.
Others took a more political angle, with one user noting the symbolism of the shade of green Ivanka wore, writing: “The shade of green she wears is almost identical to the shade of the wives in The Handmaid’s Tale.” Fitting indeed, given her father’s plan to destroy the United States and the rights of millions of people.’

While Ivanka’s appearance drew attention for both her fashion and the political currents surrounding the event, her role in her father’s administration is changing. In a recent interview on “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast,” Ivanka shared that she will be supporting her father in other ways during his second term. After playing an active role in her father’s first administration, she made it clear that she would not return to official government office.
“The main reason I’m not going back to serve now is because I know the cost, and it’s a cost I don’t want my children to bear,” explained Ivanka, a mother of three. She and her husband Jared Kushner have three children: Arabella, 13, Joseph, 11, and Theodore, 8. Ivanka described the decision as motivated by a desire to prioritize her family, stressing that she wants to be close to her children without the demands of a public role.
She also touched on the weight of the presidency, calling her father’s position “the loneliest in the world” and highlighting the emotional and psychological toll that comes with leading the free world. Although she won’t be returning to an official role, Ivanka said she looks forward to personally supporting her father during his second term. She expressed that what she will most look forward to is just being around him as a daughter, offering a sense of normalcy and relaxation away from the pressures of the presidency. “I think what I’m looking forward to the most is being able to show up for him as a daughter and be there for him to take his mind off things,” Ivanka said. “For example, watch a movie or a sports game with him. To know that he can be with me, be himself, and just relax, and that I can give it to him with a lot of love, like his daughter.”
This shift in Ivanka’s approach to her father’s second term reflects her increasing focus on family and personal support rather than public service. Her appearance at the inauguration, both in terms of her fashion and her words about her new role, demonstrated the balance she seeks between maintaining her public identity and prioritizing her private life as a mother and daughter.
Ivanka’s decision not to return to the public sphere during her father’s second term comes at a time when the political landscape is once again changing. With Donald Trump back in office, Ivanka’s role in supporting her father will likely continue to evolve, but it’s clear that her family remains top of mind. Whether she’s attending a historic event like the inauguration or quietly offering her support behind the scenes, Ivanka Trump’s choice underscores a commitment to personal connections in a world that often values political and public speaking above all else.
