Do you kiss your baby? Research explains why you shouldn’t

Children are more susceptible to infections due to a weak immune system. So, it’s best not to kiss their face.

The first reaction we have when we see a baby is to simply kiss them on the cheeks or the front. This comes from how beautiful they look and feel. We must not kiss the child; that’s why

A child’s immune system takes time to develop, making him prone to catching an infection sooner than anyone else. In the first three months after birth, the child’s immune system is very weak. Lung infections for others can have severe consequences and even be life-threatening.

The study adds that newborn babies are also more at risk of contracting the bacteria than older children and adults. Intracellular pathogens are bacteria that can enter and survive in host cells – infants are at greater risk of these infections. These infections can lead to sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis and blood contamination. Even strains of E. coli that are harmless to older children and adults can cause sepsis and pneumonia in infants with severe outcomes. Ways of showing affection to a child:

Take care of hygiene: If you see a baby, wash your hands thoroughly before touching them. Instead of kissing their face, you can kiss their feet or the back of their head.

What parents should say: Parents of infants may think it impolite to ask a visitor not to kiss their baby. However, they should prioritize the baby’s health first and ask them not to kiss the baby’s face.

If you have an infection: in case of an active infection, it is better to avoid visiting the baby altogether, especially if the baby is less than a month old.
