Do you like to eat “dal”? A viral video shows black lentils turning green after soaking overnight; know 5 serious risks

Do you like to eat “dal”? Lentils are considered a source of nutrition, as they are rich in proteins, manganese, iron, potassium and much more. But the vegetarian staple (lentil) has gone viral online after a video raised serious concerns about the authenticity of the common ‘dal’ we eat.

Recently, a woman took to her Instagram to share a video of herself washing black lentils (kali dal) from Himachal. She shares her shocking experience saying that she left the lentils in the water overnight and later in the morning she noticed that the water had turned black.

The color of the lentils changed automatically, revealing a green tint under the black coating.

“Cancer wali dal”: The green moong dal was simply dyed black

The experience was shocking for the woman; in the video she also noted how the color of the dal washes off after soaking. It looked like someone had just dyed the green moong dal black to show that it was a black lentil; she calls it “rakam wali dal”.

The incident is shocking because it looks like an attempt at forgery. This switching of staple foods is more than just a scam, as it can lead to serious health risks.
