Do you take pills with allergies before you get into the gym to avoid seasonal snuffs? Study warns you might think twice

Do you know that allergies and exercises share a hidden connection? New studies show that high levels of antihistamines can reduce the growth gain.

Antihistamines take exercise before exercise can affect your fitness growth. Studies show that antihistamines can dull the beneficial effects of physical activity by reducing muscle bleeding and limiting physiological processes such as muscle perfusion. Here’s what you need to know about a study published on May 30 in Applied Physiology. Also Read Why your workout does not work: 7 conventional mistakes in the gym and how to fix them

What is histamine and why is it important?

Histamine molecule is often associated with seasonal allergies such as a runny nose, thorny throat and itchy eyes – also affects the efficiency of exercise. Oregon University emphasizes its useful role in aerobic activity and restoration of exercise, showing that the blocking of histamine at high levels prevents the enhancement of fitness.

“In the exercises, this seems to play a very similar role in promoting our adaptation to stress,” said John Helivil, Professor of Human Physiology at Oregon University and study author. He and his colleagues found that when histamine is blocked, aerobic fitness improvements decreased by half.

Histamine also seems to increase the reaction of some genes during training. When histamine is blocked, approximately a quarter of these 3000 genes are not intensified. This means that less new proteins are produced by muscles when they are restored after exercise, and these proteins are likely to play a key role in fitness growth as those measured in the study.

More about the study

Researchers compared improvements in a group of 16 men and women who participate in a six -week bicycle mode. Participants recorded three -four times a week on stationary bicycles during the study. One group received a dose of antihistamines before each training and the other group took placebo.

The researchers then compared how the bodies of the groups adapt. When it came to their actual execution, as difficult as they could, the placebo bicycle group saw approximately twice the improvement of the histamine blocker. Improved blood flow was also much higher in the placebo -band.
