Does breastfeeding help women lose weight?

In addition, the release of oxytocin during breastfeeding helps the uterine contract, which can help reduce the size of the abdomen after delivery.”
“Breastfeeding is not magical correction”
However, weight loss during breastfeeding varies widely in humans. Dr. Biswas noted: “Some mothers can quickly lose pounds and others can save weight. This may be due to several factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, weight before pregnancy, diet, activity and stress.”
“It is also important to note that an extreme diet or rapid weight loss can adversely affect milk production and overall health. Health experts recommend gradual, constant weight loss – about 0.5 to 1 kg per week – during breastfeeding,” she added.
While breastfeeding can maintain postpartum weight loss due to the nature of calorie burning and hormonal effects, this is not a guaranteed weight loss strategy. According to the expert, the experience of each mother is unique.
“The focus on general well-being, good nutrition, hydration and delicate physical activity is more useful than emphasizing weight. Consultations with a healthcare provider or nutritionist can also offer recommendations taking into account individual needs. Thus, this is not a myth is not magical correction,” she explained.
