Sustainability and environmentally friendly materials

There is a shift in fabric preferences, leaning towards sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.

Shuchita Sancheti Garg, founder of vVyom By Shuchita explained, “In 2025, sustainability is at the forefront of interior design with eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, handwoven and naturally dyed fabrics. Efficient fabrics that are both durable and sustainable are essential for modern life.” Saba Kapoor, co-founder of Nivasa, also listed organic cotton, linen and wool as they have raw, raw textures that exude rustic elegance.

Those who are hesitant about using leather in their upholstery can opt for vegan leather, which offers a stylish and cruelty-free alternative. Hardesh Chawla and Monika Chawla, director and creative director of Essentia Environments, suggested, “Vegan leather, especially dyed acrylic (SDA), is making waves as an eco-friendly, non-fading and highly durable material suitable for all climates and design styles.” In addition to vegan leather, they also highlighted the growing popularity of high-density textured fabrics due to their exceptional durability and tactile appeal. It is ideal for furniture and soft furnishings as it promises a luxurious finish.

Earthy tones

As the fabric trend shifts towards organic materials in 2025, colors also reflect a natural touch. Saba Kapoor of Nivasa explained, “Nature-inspired colors like terracotta, olive green, sage, beige, light blue will dominate the interiors. These tones bring warmth and a calm atmosphere and can be combined with natural materials such as wood and stone for an organic aesthetic.”

Natasha Jane, co-founder of Natelier by Bent Chair, which focuses on the surge of warmer tones in 2025, said: “Calm, understated hues and warm wood tones create a serene backdrop, making it ideal for layering textures without overwhelming the space.”

As much as 2025 grounded the energy with organic fabrics and earthy colors, 2025 also has plenty of room for boldness. As noted by Hardesh Chawla and Monica Chawla of Essentia Environments, houndstooth patterns will return in 2025. Along with this, they also mentioned prints inspired by English country – with floral and felt motifs that add coziness and timeless energy to the space.

Saba Kapoor of Nivasa also echoed the presence of evergreen floral favorites in 2025, moving from abstract to retro and vintage styles. But the energy will not only be refined and modest, but also bold and adventurous, as Saba proposed a bold abstract graphic design, layering patterns to show creativity and individuality. She also mentioned that other classic patterns like tartans and tartans with modern updates will make a comeback.

Handmade textures

The fabric style of 2025 also has a grounded side with an artisanal design trend. Shuchita Sancheti Garg of vVyom By Shuchita explained, “Hand textures such as embroidered linens and hand-stitched quilts created by skilled artisans add depth and personality to interiors while maintaining traditional craftsmanship.”

Nivasa’s Saba Kapoor also predicted a rise in the artisanal textile trend, noting a growing appreciation for handmade designs that add uniqueness and character to interiors.

Luxurious textures and materials

It’s not all rustic, as intricate textures and designs look set to hold their own in 2025. Saba Kapoor of Nivasa suggested, “Fabrics like velvet, linen, bouclé and silk add softness and sophistication. They work particularly well with curved and modular furniture.”

Natasha Jain of Natelier by Bent Chair went on to explain how velvet will be reimagined with a matte finish and light, muted tones to give this classic material a modern twist. She also recommended incorporating some special premium materials such as steamed beech wood, PVD Gold stainless steel frames and microfiber to add grandeur and sophistication to any space.

Hardesh Chawla and Monika Chawla of Essentia Environments mention another luxurious fabric material – jacquard fabric. This fabric is ideal for statement furniture upholstery and accents, combining tradition with a modern aesthetic.
