Alia Bhatt almost never misses the gym. And more importantly, like a true gym rat, she never misses a leg day. Her highly innovative version of weighted planks is proof of that

Alia Bhatt’s little Instagram recap of recent moments worth capturing gave a rare little glimpse into her behind-the-scenes life. Amidst a Raha emblazoned shirt, post-gym selfie mirror, cards, sun shots and snaps, there was a video of Alia crushing it at the gym. Dressed in black and with a neat, tight bun, Aaliyah balanced hard as she performed a side plank.

But it wasn’t just a side plank. It was considered. Now, if that doesn’t impress you either, add a 5kg kettlebell plate to the mix, where the actress balances on her inner thigh, which is also balanced in the air.

Some exercises in the gym look simple, but they touch your soul. Alia’s version of the weighted side plank LOOKS like it will crush your soul. But what are the benefits of trying to perfect this next-level setup? Many.

The technique, officially called the adducted side plank, involves placing the outside leg not on the floor but on an elevated surface such as a bench or box. Keep your other leg at an angle above the floor as you balance your body on the inside of your forearm and extend your other arm.

Alia ups the ante further by balancing a 5kg kettlebell on her suspended inner thigh. It should be noted here that her more intense than usual gym sessions are especially focused on her YRF spy thriller, Alphaalso starring Sharwari. The film is currently slated for a Christmas 2025 release.

Don’t try to perfect this without professional supervision, especially if you have weights and complicated suspensions. But if you still want to up your planking game significantly, the lateral adductor plank, according to Become Better: Sport Performance and Personal Training, “targets your adductor muscles (a large group of muscles on the inside of your thigh). The adductor muscles aid in the action of running , jumping jacks, squats and deadlifts, so the adductor bar is a great way to keep those muscles strong and healthy in addition to these other movements.”

“Thick thighs save lives” seems to have just taken on new meaning!
