Revant Himatinka, popularly known as the Food Pharmer, shared three important strategies on Ranveer Allahbadiya’s podcast to raise health awareness in India.
India is struggling with several health problems, be it the risk of heart disease or diabetes. This is potentially due to an uneducated population suffering from poor dietary habits. Influencer Revant Himatinka, also known as Food Pharmer on Instagram, is a proponent of wellness and good nutrition and aims to address this lack of awareness. He often emphasizes the importance of educating people about misleading nutrition labels on food packages. Sanitary education in schools
The education system is the basis of the functioning of society. And, unfortunately, health is not a widely covered topic, like trigonometry or which war was fought in which year. Revant touched on the need to include sanitary education in the school curriculum. Food Pharmer stated: “We [India] wouldn’t be the capital of diabetes if 1st to 10th grade or 12th grade taught about health every day.” He emphasized that it is important to teach young people about proper nutrition, starting with the basics, such as what calories are, what protein is, and most importantly, how to eat properly. The education system lacks attention to health.

QR code as a food label
Revant came up with the idea of using a QR code that, when scanned, shows the same food label in 15 languages. India has multiple languages and to make any information accessible, it should be presented in the regional language. It is very important to make information available to everyone. The best understanding occurs in the mother tongue. However, nutrition labels on food packages in India are mostly in English.
Warning labels on food packages
Finally, the influencer said that foods high in calories or sugar should carry a warning label warning consumers of the health consequences. It’s like the warning labels on cigarette packs about cancer. Such labels can deter people from making unhealthy choices.
