A recent study found that heart attacks are no longer the main cause of death in the US. Published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the study shows that heart attacks or acute myocardial infarctions, as they are known in the medical field, decreased by 89% from 1970 to 2022.While the death of a heart attack decreased by the number, deaths from other subtypes of heart disease remain the main cause of death among Americans. “The conclusion is that more and more heart attacks are now surviving, compared to 55 years ago,” said US Cardiologist Dr. Jane Morgan. Here are 4 reasons why the death of a heart attack decreases:
Progress in Life Rescue Procedures

The study notes that although the occurrence of heart attacks in the US has not decreased, the number of deaths from heart attacks has decreased. In 2025, survival rate for heart attacks increased from 60% to 90%. The key reason for this is to promote the salvation of medicines, procedures and devices.
Choosing a lifestyle that affects heart health

Choosing lifestyles such as smoking, consumption of ultra-worked and noble foods, insufficient physical activity, diabetes, hypertension and sedentary lifestyles increase the risk of heart attacks. The decrease in the rate of death of the heart attack suggests that the overall choice of lifestyle has improved in the last decades, reducing the risk of vulnerability to heart attacks.
Death from Substanded heart attacks

Unefit heart attacks cause damage to the muscles of the heart and increase the vulnerability of the person to long -term chronic diseases of the heart. Depending on the severity and duration of the underweight heart attack, the weakened heart muscles become sensitive to irregular heartbeat and heart failure.
Enlargement Death associated with arrhythmia

Arrhythmias are a group of violations where the human pulse becomes abnormal. A slower and fastest heart rate can weaken the heart’s ability to maintain bleeding and affect other vital organs such as the brain and the lungs. Studies have revealed a sharp increase in arrhythmia’s death over the last decades, overtaking the rate of mortality from a heart attack. Some ways to improve heart health is a healthy amount of sleep, avoiding smoking and consuming ultra-worked products, maintaining blood sugar, reducing cholesterol consumption and regularly engaged.
