Indian javelin ace Neeraj Chopra’s wedding news Himani More came as a surprise to many and broke the Internet on the evening of January 19. Olympian Neeraj Chopra shared the news on social media by posting some pictures from his secret wedding.
Neeraj Chopra shared his dreamy wedding photos, “Beginning a new chapter of life with my family. Grateful for every blessing that has brought us to this moment together. United by love, long and long.”
Considering that 27-year-old Neeraj Chopra prefers to keep his personal life under wraps, not much was known about his intimate wedding with Himani. In fact, reports suggest that Neeraj’s wedding with Himani came as a surprise even to many of his close friends!
According to reports, Neeraj Chopra and Himani More tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony held at the SuryaVilas Resort in Kumarhati, near Solana. Their wedding was a private affair with only a few close family members in attendance. Interestingly, Neeraj’s favorite dog Tokyo was also present at their wedding. For the uninitiated, Tokyo was Neeraj Chopra’s gift to Olympian Abhinav Bindra when the former won a gold medal at his debut Olympics in Tokyo 2020, hence the dog’s name!
How Neeraj Chopra met Himani More
In an interview with Aaj Tak, Neeraj’s uncle Surendra Chopra recently revealed the details of how Neeraj Chopra met Himani More and how the couple decided to take their relationship to the next level. Surendra Chopra said that Neeraj and Himani met in the US and soon the couple fell in love. Neeraj and Himani’s respective families also approved of their relationship and that’s when their wedding was planned just two months back. Explaining why the wedding took place at such short notice, Surendra Chopra said that both the families did not want to wait another two years, given Neeraj’s busy schedule leading up to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. And since it was the off-season for Neeraj, they decided that January 2025 would be appropriate.
Neeraj and Himani’s wedding was a three-day affair – held from January 14 to 16, 2025 in Shimla. For the pre-wedding rituals, Himani visited Neeraja village where she stayed for 14 hours. The couple wanted to keep their wedding strictly private; so much so that even the ‘pandit’ who organized their wedding didn’t know that the groom was Neeraj Chopra, his uncle revealed! Also, guests at the wedding were prohibited from using mobile phones during the wedding ceremony.
Neeraj’s uncle Surendra Chopra also shared that the Olympian did not accept any dowry from the girl’s family for the wedding. Instead, Neeraj took only one rupee as a token amount from Himani’s father as a sign of respect and good luck.
Who is Himani More?
Born in Sonipat, Haryana, Himani More is a multi-talented individual with a strong academic and athletic background. She completed her BA in Political Science and Physical Education from Miranda House, University of Delhi. While in college, she represented Delhi University at the 2017 World University Games in Taiwan. She later advanced her studies in the United States, focusing on sports management.
Like Neeraj Chopra, Himani More is also a sports star. She is a tennis player and graduated from Miranda House, Delhi University in Political Science. She then moved to the US to study sports management at Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned an MBA in Sport and Fitness Management from Franklin Pierce University. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree at the Eisenberg School of Management. Along with her studies, she also works as an assistant at Amherst College in Massachusetts, where she manages the women’s tennis team.
Talking about Himani More, Neeraj Chopra’s uncle Bhim told PTI on January 19, “The girl is from Sonipat and is studying in the US.” He further added: “They have left the country for their honeymoon and I don’t know where they are going. We wanted to keep it that way.”
According to reports, Neeraj Chopra and Himani More are currently in the US and are planning to host a grand reception once they return to the country.
