Body language shows true feelings, giving essential depth to our words.

Socializing is a daily practice, whether it’s with your closest friends or acquaintances for pleasantries that help maintain connections. But have you ever wanted to become a mind reader to see into their mind and understand what they are really thinking about you?

Verbal words are only the surface layer of communication, often carefully chosen to convey thoughts and emotions. They put their thoughts into words thoughtfully and carefully. However, it’s the nonverbal cues—subtle gestures, body language, and expressions—that can reveal so much more about someone’s true feelings.

No need to indulge in fantasy crystal ball gazing or longing for a clairvoyant’s ability to dig a scoop when all you need is observation. By paying attention to a person’s body language, you can gain invaluable insight into their true thoughts and feelings, often revealing far more than their words ever could.

5 Body Language Signs You Might Not Like It

Francesca Tiginean, a psychologist, according to her Instagram bio, shared in a video 5 body language signs that someone might not like.

  • Avoiding eye contact. This may indicate that they are trying to avoid a deeper connection or conversation.
  • Pressing or pursing of the lips. It is a non-verbal signal of irritation, stress or rejection.
  • Turning their body or legs away from you. This may indicate a desire to loosen up. They may subconsciously position themselves toward an exit or an interaction.
  • Creating barriers. Placing objects between you, such as a bag or crossed arms, can symbolize a need for psychological or physical space. Likewise, stepping back or keeping a noticeable distance can indicate discomfort.
  • Limited smile and engagement. A lack of genuine smiles or limited facial expressions often indicates disinterest or a lack of warmth in the interaction.

Search for context

However, do not jump to conclusions. Verbal and non-verbal communication together make up the big picture. Don’t mistake just one gesture for pure hostility and reciprocate in kind. Always look for context. In addition to body language, voice pitch, tone, and intonation also play a crucial role in conveying emotion. These elements work in tandem to provide a more complete understanding of what someone is trying to communicate.

If you don’t want to beat around the bush, consider asking any questions about the relationship right away. Doubts can turn into misunderstandings. Who knows? You may be surprised and relieved to hear their side.
