Indian doctor compares the liver of a man who drinks only on weekends and his healthy wife: “Alcohol is poison”

Cyriak Dr. Abby Phillips, known as “The Liver Doc” online, is effective in raising awareness about the dangers of alcohol consumption through her posts on social media. In one striking example, he shared a powerful comparison between two livers: one belonging to a regular alcoholic and the other to a non-drinker. “Hello. Just wanted to show the inside of the liver of a 32-year-old man who drinks alcohol ‘only on the weekends’ and his wife’s healthy donor liver he received, which will help him survive and see their little daughter grow up,” wrote Hepatology , by sharing a picture. In the photo, the wife’s liver looks pink and healthy, in stark contrast to the drunkard’s liver, which appears mottled and dark in color.

Social media has a lot to say:

The post quickly went viral, drawing various comments from people. The person wrote: “Looking at the organ, it looks like he was lying with her family and doctors, he seems to have been a total alcoholic for a whole week.” The doctor replied, “You won’t understand. Keep feeding your confirmation bias. Sometimes experience is a great teacher.”

Another person commented: “Alcohol is poison. Point. Your liver works overtime to process it, and when you overeat — even if it’s “just on the weekend” — you overload it. Over time, this leads to fatty liver, fibrosis, cirrhosis and eventually liver failure. And guess what? By the time you experience symptoms, it’s too late. This man didn’t just wake up one day with liver failure. He spent years slowly destroying it, one drink at a time, and must have told himself, “It’s not that bad.”

A third commented: “This photo should be on every bottle of alcohol.” A fourth said: “I drink twice a month and now I’m really scared.”

The Liver Doc actively uses social media to debunk the myths surrounding health misinformation. He recently made headlines by naming actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, billionaire Nikhil Kamat and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu for their specific messages.
