Known for introducing eccentric products such as the towel skirt, ribbon bracelet, trash bag and ruined sneaker, the luxury brand has now unveiled a new shoe design for its Autumn 2025 collection which caught the attention of fashion enthusiasts. According to Balenciaga, The Zero “distills footwear to its essence”, taking the concept of barefoot footwear to the extreme. Made entirely of EVA foam and 3D molded, the shoe leaves almost the entire foot exposed, with only the rounded heel and toe cap holding the foot in place. The shoe comes in black, tan, white, and tan, but given the brand’s high-end reputation, it’s expected to carry a hefty price tag.
Online reaction to The Zero was mixed. Although some fans found the design unusual, they were excited to try it out. One comment read: “Whatever it is, I want it.” Others shared their admiration, with one writing: “Damn, my feet hurt just looking at them. But I want them!!!” Another fan exclaimed: “Okay crazy, now give me hundreds of them.” One user even hoped the price of the shoes would be lower due to the minimal design and material, saying: “Obsessed with them, hope they’re cheaper.”

However, not everyone was convinced by the design. Some expressed concerns about the comfort and practicality of the shoes. One comment noted, “They look uncomfortable and look like they could easily slip off when someone is walking.” Another user humorously wondered: “What if you have wide Flintstones feet?” A more frustrated commenter added: “If I have to spend a bag on this I’ll be pissed.”
Despite the mixed reaction, Balenciaga’s new design is sure to be another conversation starter in the high fashion world.
