How to prevent thalassemia in babies: The doctor recommends that 4 steps of each pair should know.
To prevent babies, parents, especially with family history, can take several active steps. Thalasemia is a genetic disorder of blood transmitted from parents to children, so prevention is focused on the awareness, survey and responsible planning of the family.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, D -R Kunnus (Hematopathologist and Director of the Cytometry Stream in the Neuberg Sehgal Path laboratory) and D -Subhaprakash Sanyal (director of the Fortis Institute, Fortis Hospitalsin Mumbai) offered –
1. Get thalasemia before pregnancy

- Test of the carrier The method of WHEH or genetic testing can determine if one or both parents gene thalassemia.
- If both parents – carriers, have 25% chances They will have a thalasemia major.
2. Look for genetic counseling
- A genetic consultant may explain the risks, heritage models and reproductive options when both parents are carriers.
3. Consider prenatal testing
If pregnancy is already going:
- Charion selection of Villus samples (CVS)(10-12 weeks) either
- Amniocentesis (15-18 weeks) can detect if the fetus is thalasemia.
4. Increasing awareness through education
Communities with high rates of thalassemia use state education programs and pre -loving checks, as premarital counseling and genetic testing are the only effective ways to prevent children with thalasemia.

Thalasemia is a genetic disorder of blood that affects how the body makes hemoglobin, part of erythrocytes that carry oxygen. If the body cannot make enough healthy hemoglobin, it leads to anemia – a condition where the body does not receive enough oxygen.
Thalasemia is transmitted from parents to children. This means that if one or both parents carry the gene, their child can affect. Some children may only have a soft shape and others may have a more serious type. Early detection is important that treatment can begin as soon as possible.
