Anxiety opens a flurry “what if” the floods with countless scripts. In principle, a lot of rethinking is included in it, visualizing how it can first lose the situation, perhaps a presentation or solo trip. So, with so much thought, is it an alarming person creative? A study published in the journal of creative behavior revealed anxiety with creativity. Creativity is essentially an original, innovative idea, and anxious person thinks a lot, creating many ideas. But the study showed an interesting compromise when it comes to anxiety and creativity.

The influence of anxiety on creative thinking
The study experimented with 647 participants to understand how anxiety affects creativity. They were asked to come up with decisions for the financial script of the real world- how to rapidly raise a large amount of money. Both groups had to offer ideas for this.
At the same time, they were also asked to imagine how the first date could turn around. Participants were divided into two groups, and gave two scenarios for a first date with one group, asked to think about all the ways he could go well and the other to eat all the ways he could go wrong.
Researchers measured the number of generated ideas and how unique or creative they are. The results showed that those who are concerned came up with more ideas, especially in negative scenarios. But these ideas were repetitive and lacked originality. On the other hand, those who were less disturbing caused less ideas, but their ideas were unique and innovative.
In addition, the monetary task checked creativity in practical, real situations. Participants came up with less ideas compared to the task of the first date, but these ideas were evaluated for practicality, purposeful thinking and morality. This emphasized another kind of creativity focused on solving problems, not fantasy.
The task of the date and the task of money was designed to compare two different creative creativity and practical creativity.
In hypothetical scripts, such as the task of the script, the anxious people came up with many ideas, but they were repeated.
In practical scripts, such as the task of money, anxious participants created fewer ideas, but their emphasis was on practicality and moral responsibility.

Optimism is important for creativity

Anxiety causes a lot of ideas, but this study suggests that originality blooms in positive emotional states. That is why the presence of a positive state of mind is important for obtaining fresh and innovative ideas. As they say, the quantity is not quality; An alarming mind can quickly come up with ideas, but they are quickly repeated, detained in a loop of negative emotions. In contrast, positive thinking allows for more broad, more flexible thinking.
