Actor Karthik Aaryan underwent a remarkable transformation for Chandu Champion, a biopic on Murlikant Petkar, who became India’s first Paralympic gold medalist in 1972. The actor has now revealed the steps he took to achieve his athletic physique.

How did Karthik Aaryan get fit for Chandu Champion?
Speaking to Screen, Karthik revealed that it took him a long time, around 1.5 years, and a lot of hard work to achieve the physique for Chandu Champion. The most important thing that helped him was to fix his sleep pattern. He started sleeping around 10:30pm every day. “I used to have insomnia. My sleeping pattern during filming was like this: I went to bed at 10:30 PM and woke up at 6:30 or 7 AM. You need to sleep at least 8 hours [to achieve that body]”, he said in an interview.
“Your abs are made in the kitchen…”
In addition to sleep, he also focused on diet. “Everybody will say this – your body and your abs are built in the kitchen, not in the gym. This [diet] it was the most important part of my 1.5 to 2 year long journey, which included cutting out sugar, eating less gluten, less carbs and more protein,” the actor said.
He added: “My team and I watched all these details on a minute level and then followed them carefully. At that moment I was like a machine. If I ate tomato soup at night, I ate it for a whole year and a half. My life became a bit monotonous, but the results were so amazing that I felt motivated to achieve my goal.’
