The look at the airport has become a major trend, and now content creators are starting to take care of their in-flight skin while on the road. Long-haul flights can be exciting, but unfortunately have the side effect of dry and irritated skin in the air.

Low humidity and air pressure can ruin your complexion. But don’t worry! Here are some super easy ways experts recommend to keep your skin nourished and fresh even at 30,000 feet.
According to Dr. Trupti D. Agarwal, consultant dermatologist at Sir HN Reliance Hospital, Mumbai, humidity is very important during flights. “The low humidity and pressure on an airplane can dehydrate the skin, causing dryness, irritation and dullness. That’s why hydration is the most important step when traveling,” she emphasizes.
Dr. Nirupama Parvanda, MD, a dermatologist and founder of Zolie Skin Clinic in New Delhi, agrees, adding that the humidity drops to 20% on a plane. “Many airplane windows don’t provide enough UV protection, so using sunscreen is even more important at this altitude,” she says.
Here’s a simple skin care routine you can follow on board to keep your skin glowing and hydrated, no matter the altitude:
Before you fly:
Start your flight with a lightweight skin care regimen that refreshes and protects. Dr. Parvanda advises washing your face with a hydrating cleanser to remove impurities without stripping your skin of its natural moisture. Then apply a non-comedogenic moisturizer followed by a hyaluronic acid toner. “Hyaluronic acid is a hydration hero,” she says. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to your skin and lock it in with a nourishing lip balm. She adds, “Please note, avoid makeup, AHA BHA and retinoids during and before your flight.”
In the air:
Facial care products are the best options to keep your skin hydrated and fresh during the flight. Reapply moisturizer and lip balm to avoid dryness.
Sitting for too long and consuming too much salt can cause water retention, and you may notice a puffy face or swollen legs after a few hours of air travel, so stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and try to avoid alcohol and caffeine.
After the flight:
Use a mild cleanser to wash your face and apply a hydrating sheet mask to soothe your skin. For deep rehydration, apply a hyaluronic serum or ceramide-based moisturizer.
