Mohammed Aslam’s six children were taken to the Community Medical Center for medical examination on Saturday evening. According to them, the children were treated at the hospital where 5-year-old Nabina breathed her last on Sunday.
The village of Kotranka sub-district has been struggling with a mysterious disease since last December, which claimed the lives of nine people from two different families. According to the latest deaths, the number of dead has reached 12 people.
According to Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, director of GMC Hospital, preliminary investigations have pointed to a viral infection as the cause of the mysterious deaths. However, he also said that more research is needed to reach a definitive conclusion. Meanwhile, teams of experts from the National Institute of Virology Pune, PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS Delhi and National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi have visited the village to help in the investigation.
According to the Daily Excelsior, the children showed symptoms such as fever, sweating, vomiting, dehydration, episodic loss of consciousness, etc. d., after which they were referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Associated Hospital, Rajouri and later to SMGS Hospital (GMC). Jammu.
“Six children were hospitalized here. One girl died yesterday and two more children died today. The exact cause of death is still unknown. The health department could not identify the disease,” Aijaz Ahmed, a close relative of the dead children told The New Indian Express.
“This incident drew disturbing parallels with a similar tragedy in December 2024 (originally on December 7 and 12), when eight members of a related family in the same village died under mysterious circumstances,” the media reported.
