They have long been sprinkled with Byrians, tucked in Mita and enjoyed the fistula feast during the festive feast, finally recognized more than just littered. As India fights the increase in diabetes and prediabetes – 101 million and 136 million adults respectively – this modest nut is quietly redone.

Earlier this year, the Madrus Diabetes Fund (MDRF) published a study in “Nutrition”, which emphasizes the potential of pistachio in diabetes prevention. Leaded by MDRF chairman Dr V Mohan, a 12-week clinical trial featuring 120 individuals with prediabetes revealed that consumption of 30 grams of fried pistachios and dinner led to measuring improvements: from better blood sugar to reduce weight. “It’s a simple, effective intervention,” says D -Mohan.
On nutrition, pistachios are halo in several boxes. “They are rich in protein for the health of the muscles stuffed with dietary fiber to help digest and regulate the sugar in the blood, as well as full fats for the heart,” says the nutritionist Dr. Anyan potassium, adding: “fried and unsalted varieties create one of the best snacks.”
Their advantages are extended further: folate for expectant mothers, magnesium for bone aging and hearts for everyone for almost everyone. “Pistachios are especially useful for pregnant women due to the content of folic acid, and for the elders because of their strengthening of the bones,” adds Dr. Drishya but, nutritionist Paras Health, Gurugram.
So, it is not surprising that the pistachios become more than just festive tariffs. “There was a post-pandemic shift in the like India snack,” said Sumita Saran, a representative of India American pistachios, adding: “Previously, pistachios were mostly used as a side dish. Now people perceive them as part of their daily diet.”
Despite the fact that India is not commercially growing pistachios, California varieties are widely available. “You will find them in stores across the country,” Saran adds, “All consumers have to do, it’s to look for California pistachios and choose a preferred brand.”
The pistachios seem to be not just a treat. They have a habit of developing.
