Riddhima Kapoor vows to slay
Unlike those 10-step celebrity beauty routines, Riddhima is all about simplicity, minimalism and letting your skin breathe. “Yes, I follow a skincare routine – it’s basically cleansing, toning and moisturizing. I like simple moisturizers, not really expensive ones. You know how our grandmothers used Ponds and Nivea, it really works for me. You will literally find them in my bathroom. I have dry skin that gets worse in the winter, so it takes even more care. I also use a vitamin C serum on my face.’
Revealing her favorite nighttime skincare routine for soft, dewy skin, she says, “I believe in exfoliation. I put a thick layer of moisturizer on my face and take it off the next day. It worked for me. I do this every night; in the winter I’ll probably use a thicker moisturizer. I also put Vaseline on my face instead of moisturizer.’
Slip-on is a great option for someone like Riddhima who has “very dry skin”. Simply put, slip is a way to hydrate your skin – just apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or a petroleum-based balm to your face to lock in moisture. The next morning, wash it off with a face wash and enjoy glowing, freshly moisturized skin just like Riddhima.
Riddhima loves effective ingredients and treatments
She likes to focus on a few staples that address her particular skin concerns and streamline her skincare steps, like cleansing her skin only when necessary, as over-washing can strip it of its natural oils. For Riddhima, the goal of skincare is to support the natural health and beauty of her skin, not to try to change it into something it’s not.
“I go for a lymphatic drainage massage,” she says. It is essentially a gentle, light-touch therapy that stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to flush out toxins, waste, and excess fluid from the body. Riddima also swears by facial yoga to strengthen and tone her facial muscles, giving her face a more toned and radiant look. “Now I have started doing facial yoga. I do it every day. It’s something important, and I feel like people should do it,” she says.
She eats right for her youthful glow
Ridhima believes that a well-balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can help maintain healthy and glowing skin. “Beauty is deep. What you eat affects your skin. My mother (Neetu Kapoor) always says, “You need to eat right for your skin, because no matter what products you put on your skin, if you don’t follow your diet, it will show on your face.” You can use a gazillion beauty products, but if you don’t follow a healthy and balanced diet, it won’t work for your skin.’
She adds, “Sometimes I put tulsi, star anise, or cloves in the water. My skin is very dry and I need some serious hydration. That’s why water is very important to me. Growing up, my grandmother always said, “Drink nariyal pani (gentle coconut water) for good hair and skin.”
Hair care tips for a luscious mane
According to Riddhima, choosing the right conditioner can make all the difference for healthy hair. A long-lasting moisture conditioner can keep hair moisturized and soft. She also suggests applying a deep conditioning hair mask periodically to nourish and hydrate your hair.
“I take good care of my hair because I tend to blow dry it and end up putting a lot of heat on it. I go to hair salons, but I don’t oil my hair. I love doing hair masks and this really helps me. Of course, it is very important to use a good quality shampoo and conditioner. I feel that conditioner is more important than even oiling,” she says.
Repeated coloring can weaken the structure of the hair, make it more prone to brittleness and split ends. So Riddhima says she focuses on conditioning her hair properly. Another tip? “One thing I have always maintained is that I never dye the roots of my hair. As never before. I also don’t use too much hairspray, she says.
