Smarter but sad children? The study shows the upbringing style that comes with a risky compromise

They reviewed data from the China family panel 2014, a large poll that covers families across the country. The study evaluated the power of decision -making in the child’s education. According to researchers, almost half of the mother claimed responsibility for the academic choice.

What’s more, teenagers who have gained higher tests, evaluating memory and mathematics skills, indicate more participation in the mother. This may assume that the extra time when the mother is spent, helping and controlling her children’s studies.

With this type of upbringing style, cognitive characteristics of the child and academic skills are usually exacerbated, making them better at school.

But this tiger mother’s upbringing style goes with potential disadvantages. While academic skills are improving, and teens work well on tests, their emotional and social skills are often underdeveloped because these areas are not brought up enough. Moreover, with such a strong focus on study, children who have grown in this strict education style are rarely recommended to participate in free time or public activity, since learning achievements become a priority. They miss a lot of things that kids do their age as a fight against friends or enjoying a vacation. As a result, emotional intelligence takes a hit because there is little space for self -expression, creativity or mixing with others. Low social skills can ultimately create problems, especially when navigating adult relationships.
