Nayanthara and Vineesh Shivan’s love story started in 2014 on the sets of their film Naanum Rowdy Dhan. The duo quickly fell in love and their relationship blossomed over the years. After dating for nearly a decade, they tied the knot in 2022 in a lavish ceremony that mixed tradition with grandeur. While their wedding pictures captured the hearts of the internet, their recent documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale shows the whirlwind journey of planning their dream wedding.

Mehendi Nayanthara’s royal look

For her mehendi ceremony, Nayantara opted for a bespoke piece red lehenga from Monika Shah who epitomized elegance and royalty. The ‘Ek Taar’ lehenga featured intricate gold embroidery and the blouse was embellished with vibrant patterns. The ensemble was elevated with a gold embellished dupatta that added a royal charm to her look.
To complete her outfit, the actress paired the outfit with statement jewelry, including a bold necklace and matching earrings. Her choice of accessories perfectly complemented the intricate work on her lehenga.

Vignesh Shivan, not one to be overshadowed, matched his bride with a red kurta set by the same designer. His outfit was a mix of bright hues and detailed craftsmanship, reflecting the couple’s appreciation for tradition and modernity. Together they make a great duo that embodies grace and style.
While the grandeur of Nayanthara and Vignesh’s wedding at the Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort and Spa in Mahabalipuram left everyone in awe, the planning process was far from smooth sailing. According to the actress, the original plan of holding a traditional Hindu wedding at the Tirupati Tirumala temple had to be abandoned due to unforeseen logistical problems.
With only ten days to prepare, the couple switched gears and successfully organized a grand celebration that retained its cultural essence.

A combination of traditions with a personal approach

For those unfamiliar, Nayanthara, born Diana Kurien, converted to Hinduism in 2011 and officially adopted her stage name. Despite her mother’s wish to see her in a Christian wedding dress, Nayantara wanted a Hindu wedding to honor her beliefs and identity.

In the documentary, she shared her vision for creating a ceremony that combines Hindu and Christian traditions. She explained: “Because I’m a born Christian, my mom always wanted to see me in Christian clothes like a wedding dress. But since I became a Hindu and we have to have a Hindu wedding, I just thought it should be a beautiful combination of a Hindu and a Christian wedding, so we kept it a Hindu wedding with an English twist.”
From her meticulously planned wedding attire to her ability to blend traditions seamlessly, Nayanthara continues to inspire fans with her authenticity and elegance. Her red mehendi lehenga, a testament to her sophisticated fashion sense, set major goals for brides-to-be.
The intimate details of her wedding planning, revealed through documentary and unseen photographs, show the love and effort the couple put into making their special day unforgettable. Be it her regal red lehenga or the cultural mix story of her wedding, Nayanthara proves once again why she is fondly called a ‘Lady Superstar’.
