Weight loss history: the Indian beauty queen lost 48 kg thanks to home-cooked meals and walks

In addition, she is also the co-founder of a children’s shoe company in the US. Standing at 5ft 8in, Chandni once weighed a whopping 118kg. However, after making a U-turn from her post-pregnancy weight to her curvaceous figure, she has since lost 48kg and now weighs 70kg. From a dress size XXXL to a size Medium, Chandni has come a long way to achieve her fitness goals.

What was the turning point in your life?

The turning point for me was when I was seriously afraid of my health and faced complications during pregnancy and after pregnancy.
I had trouble conceiving due to PCOS and subsequently had pregnancy complications. To avoid further problems, my doctor advised me to be on bed rest during my second and third trimesters (about six months in total), which caused me to gain a lot of weight. I had a long recovery period after pregnancy and was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
It was a wake up call for me. I realized that if I didn’t take care of my health, I would be at risk of even more serious health problems. This diagnosis pushed me to focus on my health.

What motivated you?

What kept me motivated was focusing on my long-term goals. I reminded myself that it’s not just about losing weight to look good. It was about preventing major health issues, feeling healthier overall, and being the best version of myself for me and my family.
My daughter has also been a great source of motivation. I wanted to be healthy and there for her to set a good example and show her the importance of taking care of herself.
Seeing the progress, both physically and mentally, kept me going. Every little improvement in my health fueled my desire to be fit and active.

Adhered to a diet

After extensive research into nutrition, I decided to focus on making sustainable, long-term changes to my lifestyle and eating habits.
​​​​​​​Although I knew I could lose weight much faster by following fad diets, I decided to do it in a steady and sustainable way because past experience has taught me that the faster I lose weight by depriving myself, the faster I gain it back the whole weight.
So instead of going on a crash diet, I prioritized healthy Indian food cooked at home, which allowed me to control the quantity and quality of the ingredients I used. I continued to eat all my favorite Indian dishes like rice, roti, paneer and chicken curry. However, I controlled my portions and maintained a calorie deficit by including more protein and fiber in all my meals.
I limited eating out to only once a week or on special occasions. I cut out as much junk and processed food as possible. It wasn’t about restricting or depriving myself, it was about carefully choosing foods that I could preserve in the long run. Balance and moderation were key for me.

Training program

My training routine was a combination of low and high intensity exercise. I religiously worked out 3-4 times a week. I combined walking and running for cardio and incorporated weight training.
There were times when I would miss a week or two of training due to vacation, injury or illness, but I made sure it didn’t affect my progress and got back on track as soon as possible.
I focused more on the process than the results, which helped me stay motivated and consistent. I never gave up even though I didn’t see any weight loss for the first two months. I didn’t let the numbers on the scale demotivate me!
When I stayed committed, I started to see results. Consistency was the key for me.

Changes that occurred after losing weight

After my weight loss journey, I noticed a significant change in both my physical and mental well-being. Physically, I felt stronger and more energetic. My blood pressure and cholesterol stabilized and I was no longer pre-diabetic! I was able to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to take on new challenges, such as entering and winning the Mrs. beauty pageant.
